Resolute, une autre photo…Another photo of Resolute…

A group of ‘southern tourists’ in awe in front of an Inuksuk, the funny thing about this one is that it was built by a group of Canadian soldiers in training there, and besides the Inuits residing in Resolute, were  taken from other villages, from Baffin Island I believe, and brought in Resolute between 1952 and 1955, the first settlement there was a joint US-Canada weather station in 1947, that photo was taken on my first trip out there in May 1983…

Parfois, il faut se fier à…Sometimes you must rely on…

Photoshop for a rather ordinary photo, not very well done either in the way I took the pic and on top of that, I did not set the negative correctly on the scan slide holder, or it is simply badly set in the slide holder, did not feel like it was worth to try to set it right, but maybe I could try a few tricks in photoshop, here’s the original photo….

Hambourg, Copenhague? 1986-oct

A few try outs, modifying the distribution curbs for exposure, contrast, and playing with a few others effects, making part of the pictures, and finally using a black and white and sepia filter on top of all or mixed with all those modifications…I guess the simpler thing is to take a good photo, and not relying on software to correct it…but sometimes you have to do with what you have, or leave it in a desk drawer. By the way the only thing I do remember about this photo, is I know it was taken in october-november 1986, maybe in Copenhagen, Hamburg or Gôteborg..but can’t say for sure…

Si j’étais un chien…If I was a dog…

I would see my surrounding in black and white, so I guess my atelier would look to me like this, which is a nice thing for balancing lights in a composition, but I would have to invent the colors…

So it is more what we see as humans…:)

Two photos, windows, one taken from my place, the kitchen looking toward the backyard, the other while traveling in Heidelberg, nothing special about these, they could have been taken in almost any city in the world, or almost. Sometimes we do take photograph without any reason in peculiar, maybe just for the fun of it…

Faut pas perdre le Nord…hum not translable…I think…

Difficult to translate….you must not lose the North, I guess you better figuring a compass, and the needle is pointing anywhere, and it does not stay at one place, true or false North…Archimède, thanks Wiki, I had written originaly Aristotle, found it and said….Eureka,, but as we know, the Vikings did venture up North, and even Mars I think, according to NASA, but not the Greeks…so he was not, Archimèdes, talking about Eureka, Nunavut, or Northwest Territories, where this photo was taken, non Mars, I’ve been there it is dusty, red and beautiful…oops I must not reveal my extraterrestrial origin…I keep forgetting….so ‘ perdre le nord’ in french could be translated as being a bit of a foolish, hopefully not disturbed person, somebody who isn’t quite normal,…good thing, I like people when they are fools, gentle just a bit odd person, fools…so a photo from Eureka, a place that will help you, wanting it or not, to become a bit different, a bit of a gentle fool, as many other beautiful places, photos have sometimes a way to make you dream, I do hope this one does a little bit this job…

If you can read both languages, I suggest you do, most of the time, I try to keep the the translation in the same mood and feelings, this time, it isn’t the case…

De retour à Munich…Back to Munich…

Two more pics taken while I was strolling in a large park around the sciences museaum in Munich, it was fall 1986, november, the colors were beautilful, the lights, but again you will have to imagine the colors…it is a black and white photographic world for today’s post. I like using black and white photographs for my painting models, it does leave place to interpretation for colors choice….

From time to time, I like photographying on the fly, street scene, not thinking much about composition or anything else, often I take them thinking I can fix it in photoshop, or working in the darkroom, many years ago….this is one of this type.

I don’t know why, sometimes my scans show ‘ghost shadows’ it was the case here, I had to do a lot of retouching and manipulations, and still lot of speckles to clean up, I got a lot done but still some were missed…well later if I want too, or maybe I will just use it to inspire a new painting, with a model….a bit more ‘glamour’

Ready for a ride in the City home of the most famous gondolas, and pigeons, not very far from Vienna; so a very first photo many more will come…it was late last night, I did try to clean up the scan but there is still lots of small speckles left, eventually I will get back to it and pass the aspirator, or photoshop… so a gondola, in black and white…in Venice

I do not like eating at the office cafeteria, so why not using that lunch time hour to publish, like I started doing a few weeks ago, either a photograph, or a new version of a pastel or painting, so today it will be a photograph, from a new place, not featured yet by me, this one was taken during that same one year trip, this time it is a sculpture park in Oslo, Norway, the original is in color, but it was grey that day and not many colors anyway, so I decided to present in black and white….
