J’aimerais être là ces jours-ci…. Wish I’d be back there…

The hot weather in Montreal does often wish I would go back there, there is Mould Bay, Nunavut, then it was in the North West Territories, that was in June 1984, it was much colder than here today in Montreal, to me it was fresh, for many it was just plain cold…true I did saw a blizzard there on July 11 th of the same year…I would probably not want to go back for weeks or months, it is a bit too long and you start missing family and friends, but I would not mind for a few days, but now this weather station is closed, and maybe the weather is not as fresh as it use to be….so a pic from this place, yes it is Photoshop edited…

Finally, since I was almost getting to the point where I was creating layers to be drawn on, I have decided it was better to strart from scratch a new sketch, a rare landscape, no model here except the landscape and some vague souvenirs…I am a bit weary when I think about this Arctic site and wonder with apprehension what have become of this beautiful place, even if it was very isolated, and winter was very, very long, seems it never ends there…

Art digital, Mould Bay d’après photo 66-015, 1984-06-xx version 003, 2024-08-02 20h45

Yes it is in a very early stages and I did fooled around quite a bit with layers in both pics, the reference photo and the sketch, even if it does not show here yet…

Le grand Nord, autre esquisse….The Great White North, another sketch

In a post to come, eventually, I will write a bit more about this sketch, those few first versions are from a second sketch derived from some pictures I took un north long time ago, around 1983 for this one, photo taken at Eureka Weather Station, on Ellesmere Island, Nunavut, so the three first steps and the photo, have to ‘dedust’ this one, work started but not ready yet…

Projet Arctique…? New project, the Arctic ?

I was lucky enough for a few years to have as almost a second home these exotic places like Eureka, Mould Bay and Resolute Bay….and of course I do have a lot of picture taken those years, between 1983 and 1985, some presented here and there, but for lack of time..a recurrent topic with me..:) I never had or taken the time to get through this project, that is stored somewhere along those many and still to do projects, more on this later, for now just a pic and I think I did found using Photoshop a quicker way to remove those dust specs on the Kodachrome slides….so for now I will just present another pic from that era, as for the project, I will write more on it during these coming weeks or months…to be on the safe side…

It’s been a long time I did not publish some of these Great North photos, the original slides, scanned, are dusty, very dusty..so extensive cleaning in photoshop is required..but finally I did some this morning, and looking at them I tough they could be nice subjects for a painting series…the vanishing Arctic…

Theses photos and all of my Arctic stuff were taken between 1983 and 1985, was young then…and there was not much talk about global warming, more about the ozone layer…Resolute Ebay…oops Bay is the hub of all activities going on in this part of the High Arctic, from there we were flying toward exotic locations like Mould Bay and Eureka weather Stations.

For transportation, most of the time the only option was the plane, big one like the Hercules, or smaller ones, in some case the boat was another option, but for some locations only and once a year…for our construction projects more than often it was the big plane…the Army who was coming to Eureka, two months a year, had also some planes bringing material for a camp including a bar…for our great pleasure, we had access to the mess even if we were not military…:)

Yesterday I started going through old slides, the one posted were from Resolute Bay, they were taken between 1983 and 1985 and I wrote that then global warming wasn’t the day conversation subject…then this morning I came across this one taken in Mould Bay, and some thing did come back to my mind…

It was March 1984, and a research project was going here, the idea was to study multi-year old ice and relate the ground data to images taken from space, so it would be possible to have more detailed maps of ice condition in Arctic waters. Mould Bay was selected because the Bay would never completely melt in summer…except for 1983, than 1984 and 1985, I did not return after that but I guess it was probably the last time it could be studied, so I guess it was a first sign….

Blue sky on Mars?

Very strange, this blue sky on Mars, isn’t it?

Very strange, blue sky on Mars, terraforming? No, I will probably give ammunition to those peoples who believe that spatial flight are faked, and fossils were placed to make us belief in the evolution theory, and that most scientific evidence are just falsified datas to make us believe things, a vast complot for those in power…well in this case it is just another of my pic of Eureka, in the Canadian Artic and modified in photoshop….and I don’t consider myself part of these unscrupulous shadowy peoples who are supposed to control us according to them….:)

Eureka en juillet…July at Eureka…

In the middle of summer, the fjord in front of the station is magnificient, so are the Sawtooth Mountains, clearly visible on a beautiful day or night, at that time of the year, up there, it does matter, and I remember we had many nice days where the temperature was just right, for those latitudes, 8-10 degrees Celsius, not much wind,  so we could enjoy the scene comfortably sitting along the shore..of course there is also, as almost on any site up North, ‘leftovers’…like those tractor belts, chenille in french, at least that was I think it is…it is also the North, beautiful sights and debris….

A creek is running close to the station, when the snow is melting, it does provide the water supply, partly, for the station, and since  It is not a major waterway, it is unnamed, so to us it was ‘Station Creek’….so a picture of the creek flowing into the larger Fjord by the station.

Iceberg droit devant!….Iceberg…Straigh Ahead…

Of course they did not ‘meet’, both went their way, at least for the helicopter, who kept flying, and the helico occupants were probably quite happy with that, as for the iceberg, eventually it will follow its journey but not before a few months, in the meantime it did stayed stuck in the ice….

Renard tache…Fuzzy Fox…

I wish this fox, sitting on this snow bank top would look more like a fox and less like some fuzzy spot on my picture, so I guess you will have to take my word on this one and believe it is an arctic fox and not just some blurry fuzzy spot on my slide…I guess my scanner do have some limits…even when scanning to high resolution….

Mould Bay, Nunavut, 1984-07; 069-33_1984-07-xx-R

In photo only, I am not going back myself, I guess I would like to go back, but not many chance of that happening, so this one is in Mould Bay, summer 1984, that year summer did not show up there, but many low light situation, skyies changing, fog , clouds, snow moving in and then the sun was there…this pic was very underexposed, try fixing it with some software, the result…
