Well, maybe you asking yourself, where is he going now with this title…:), there a painting, another one, that is giving me some trouble, started from a nude sketche, and frankly, I wasn’t too happy with it…

Then after I did add gloves, and boots, to add color, and punch, did not worked out the way I hope….

426-11 Nue 2012-1, Acrylique 18×24 2013-02-08

So I told myself why not using some software, that I use mainly as a hobby, a while ago I thought I could do something ‘professionnal’ with those, but I dont know enough about them, but maybe I could use them as sketching tools, to work on some painting projects, or in this case deciding what to do with this one….

A synthétic image, taken from trying to make an animation from Daz Studio, this software use 3d models, that you can pose, and animate, and of course they are selling clothes and props, to go with it…that’s the catch, so you buy clothes for your models, hence the allusion playing with dolls…:), kind of taking me back to my much younger years, when I was playing with GI Joes, articulate indians, or amerindiens and cowboys, and so on….don’t know if as kids you were wathcing programs withs those dolls, were you could see the ropes…but this time I used it or her for this painting, gave her a similar posse, could not get the exact pose without overiding setttings…maybe the rigging of this model is not good, or my drawing of the pose wasn’t correct….:)

La photo de ce ‘nouveau’ modèle, bien sûr elle porte des bottes…:) / the picture of this ‘new’ model….of course she’s wearing boots…:)

And there where my other favorite software tool is coming into action, photoshop, I did a superposition of this new model, taking out the background and pasting it onto the lastest version of this painting….and a few more manipulations to add parts of the model , or other textures, playing too with lighting or darkening parts of the picture to get this new photo that will be the base for this modifierd painting, which will be in the next post….

I did leave it rest before the exhibition, I know then I would not finish it in time, I though I could this time, prove me wrong again…don’t know if it is because there were too many drawing errors when I started it, or as it did happened a few times, the surface of the canvas became too tacky when I switch from acrylic to oil, I don’t do it as often as I used to, keep things in the same medium seems to work better for me now…or maybe a bunch of those things and others factors, but this painting is really giving me lots of headaches…I think it did improve, but again it will have to rest a while…maybe the next time I will be able to finish it….

And to keep a recent good habit I adopted, the slideshow, does help to see where it came from…

You can also go to those pages PORTE FOLIO and MAKING OF, those were redesigned a bit, more work to do on these later, eventually…:)

While I’m working on another in progress work, time to to some clean-up into this section, and move the finished ones to the 2013 new works page…you will recognize this painting, I think and a video making of style.

A bit of pastel, and portrait, of this young woman who seems to me quite comfortable in this rocking chair, and I feel that pastel is a perfect medium to convey this impression of softness.

A few of the exhibited works were not quite finished, or more like yes they can be, but also they may be reworked…the Two Cindys is one example, and I thought that it could be reworked. Here’s the latest version, and also the previous one, from a few months ago… there was a few pictures taken over the last few weeks, so why not presenting the complete slideshow so far…Is it finish now? don’t think so, although deciding when it is finished is a whole issue, especially for me…usually I just decided ok it is done now, can’t add anything to it, but finished, I never (almost) know…

As the next exhibition is very far from now, it is time to come back to the works that are not finished yet, some were showned, there are very close to be finished; others are far from it and were not seen, in fact they were in the ‘backstore’, or my bedroom who served as a place to store many things that had to be move or hiden during the show, make for a nice set up waking up in the morning….:D

Seems like my landscapes were more in demand, I guess it will be for later…..

Since not all materials were not at their place yet, I decided to go for a pastel, no big setup required, and I decide too that I should take this opportunity to rearrange my workshop, so the model photo, the last version and the new and a few shots of my ‘atelier new and improved…’

Le modèle/the model

Mon coin de travail réaménagé, plus spacieux je pense….My work area, a bit more spacious than before, I think….

And, as you may have guess, there’s been a few intermidiate versions, so here’s the slideshow….

Pré-exposition partie 2….

Did not have a show, either at home or else, over the last 2 years and a half, so maybe first I should pile up those new paintings and pastels, cannot hang everything I have here of course, so priority for the newest, realised there are quite a few

Since it was getting pretty late, and I did not want to disturb my neighbourgs, who are quite tolerant thanks, I always invite them to the show to thanks them…and besides I had enough ‘ménage’ for this day, I decided to paint a bit more, so here’s the latest, finished and signed version of this painting of this model wearing white boots and gloves, who finally pick up her suitcase to go with the latest painting completed.

And of course as everything is displaced in my appartment right now, to protect these new oils paintings during their drying time, I’m quite clumsy when I do some cleaning up and moving around thing, mishaps happen, it not yet, they will….I store them temporarely in my bedroom, which for the next few days will be more like a warehouse for everything that has to get out of the way…I just make sure to keep some kind of access trail to my bed….:D

Just five days before my home exhibition, and yes, I’m starting to feel a bit stressed, so many things I have to do, in order to be ready for it, and of course quite a few paintings, I would like to be ready, finished I should say…and I start wondering if I will be ready, happen everytime I do this, but at least Sophie Marceau, her, she is ready, of course I’m talking about the painting I’m doing of her….of course the signature doesn’t mean I could not decide to add to it, happened a few times…., but it does meant that at this point I’m ready to put it on the wall…the photo

And a slideshow, all the steps leading to the latest version, finished version…:

Ah qu’elles me donnent…

Lot of trouble these three Lonneke..another session when it seems that this particular painting, goes on his way, going in a way that I did not planned….and when this happen, some good and bad things happen, I do like the more loose side it took, even if in the meantime, it send my model almost faceless….at least tonight, which by the way is Tuesday, I took a photo, but did not feel like posting it right away, I know I will reworked it soon, like tomorrow night….

In repair mode, for the face or faces shall I say…and why not working on the background, either by rendering it a bit more uniform, and playing with colors, shapes and contrast, and trying to fix the light, which is quite unnatural….in fact it is coming from many sides…I guess this is a difficulty that come with this type of painting, made from a collection of part of the same pose..

Still a bit, a lot of work, on this painting, which I think is finally very close to the end….I feel it or just telling myself the expo is near and I want to show it…and another leg is appearing, or reappearing I should say, often I do apply a rule I’ve been teached in my very first painting course, repeating either a color, a shape, a texture in at least 3 place, spread across the painting, apparently it does help balancing, and the eye is moving from one of these spots to another…so here I do have 3 times Lonneke and three times one of her boot….I guess the magic number here is 3, rule are fine, but I’m not always respecting them, you have to know them before deciding te break it, but it is not the case here…:)

Nothing like having a deadline, even self-imposed, like putting a date for a home exhibition, to finish some works that were due, maybe it won’t be finished tonight, but very little will be missing….

This painting of a woman, wearing boots, how unusual…:) and who’s picking up or putting down her suitcase, still don’t know about that…not important I guess…

Since there is not so much time left before the exhibition, I would like to finish those two unfinishable paintings…Lonneke, actually more like three times her and also Sophie Marceau, been so long I started those two, I would like very much have them ready for the exhibit….get to work!
