Going south could be quite a relative thing, when you leave Eureka or Resolute Bay, and going to Baker Lake for example, and the first look I had on this place was in march 1984, from the window of the Twin Otter, I could see these houses who seems to be battered by the strong winds blowing toward Hudson’s Bay, not quite the south vista that travel agency put on their posters to attract tourist….but I though that it could make a nice photo and give a sense of the  isolation of those northern villages…

Baker lake, Nunavut

May as well put a map, if you’re like me, before going there, I would not have know where the hell is Baker Lake, so maybe it does give you the general idea, it is north….

Les vieilles pierres…Drawn to old stones…

For somebody like me, born in a ‘young country, Quebec or North America, the first thing that impress us is the age of some of the buildings and construction you do find anywhere in Europe, most of these were build before Europeans arrived in North America, except for the Vikings who sailed to Newfoundland around 950 A.D, so i guess it is why the first few days I was travelling on my bike ou train, I took so many photographs, like this one, an old church build well before french settlers came to Québec, this one is in Normandy, la pointe du contentin, and as I read in some place, the front of the church was facing the sea, here the English Channel, for the safe return of the sailors I think, or to remember those lost to the sea.

A rather common street view photo, could be anywhere as long autumn exist there, If I rely on the negative number, and I did not misplaced it, it is probably Frankfurt, Germany; spent a few days there before going to Heidelberg, I do have some other photos, but I haven’t come around them yet, when I do, I will probably be able to say if it is Frankfurt or another town…so in the meantime a street view, colorful but people less…

Salzbourg, un dernier cliché…a last shot…

I should rather say a last shot of one of the mountains nearby the city, that one did also need some touch-ups, maybe more than a little…..and this one also close this city photo album, unless I go back one day, maybe in summer this time….

and I may as well present the original one, maybe for some of you, it will be better than the modified one, or maybe you will find something to like on both…

Salzbourg, les dernières, 2 de 3….2 of 3 of last pics of Salzburg…

Another black an white pic of the Castle, I though again that the original pick was a bit too ‘middle of the lane’, so I tried all kind of photoshop effects, but finally came back to a modified version, but very lightly modified, I guess sometimes I have to admit maybe it is not the greatest shot, but it does convey a sense of a misty, cold, late November in Austria…

Salzbourg, les dernières….Salzburg, the last ones

Still a few photos taken in Salzburg, I do like them, but I am not sure that they will come out well, to me they do miss a bit of something, not sure what, but I thing they are worthy of a try , an black and white shot, the original. The first one of three…

I did like the general impression coming out from this pic, but I felt something was missing, so I started by modifying balance of greys, exposure, and shifting a bit the greys curves, and I though about applying two filter, one sepia, a bit of a warmer atmosphere, and another one slightly blueish to cool it down on some parts, I had also to apply a mask to prevent the branches from completely blend into the sky…I prefer working with subtle effects, trying not to overdoing it, of course it is a matter of taste and what you feel your pics should be, so I am quite please with this one…I could probably try many more alterations, but I thing it will be that…

I don’t know why, but to me Normandy is more like bucolic landscape, not many industries, of course there is a large port in Cherbourg, but from the top of the stairs I did not anticipate to see big cranes, like the ones we see in most of seaport, I admit it is not Hamburg, or Rotterdam but I wasn’t expecting to see something else than a marina, or something where small boats are coming, maybe it is not a large one, actually I did not walk up to there, so a distant view of wharf cranes, still in Granville, if I’m not wrong or my memory isn’t playing tricks to me…

Walking on the shore of Mont Saint-Michel baie by an early July night in 1986, I saw the sun going down into the Bay, and suddenly all that hostel windows seems to glow, ok not all of them, but the ones on the first floor, I thought taking a picture, not knowing if it would be for the sake a making a good pic, or as I often do, taking a photo, not thinking if it will make a good one, but more like taking shots that I can use for a  painting, finally I think it can work for both…I am just wondering how I could set up a model wearing boots in this one…maybe I could just paint a landscape, or skyscape, or windowscape…and I certainly not consider at that time that I would use this for a post on the internet, from a computer, at that time, 1986, I already spoke french and english but not computer language…:) or windows…or weebly, wordpress and others.. so here’s those windows reflections and I will stop my own reflections on this topic…

Le mont Saint-Michel? où cela? Mont St-Michel? Where? Where?

That day I was cycling along the road that run around the Baie du Mont Saint-Michel, and for the first, stopping for a bite, a bit of water, and taking photos, I notice it for the first time, coming out of the haze at the horizon, with a lonely tree counterpoising it…the road is wandering along the Bay, so it is still a good ride to get there, I though I would stop overnight at Genêts, a little village, 500 inhabitants, 5 bistro, 2 ‘buvettes’ but more on this in a later post when I will get to the pics taken there, I did not stayed overnight….
