Le mont Saint-Michel? où cela? Mont St-Michel? Where? Where?

That day I was cycling along the road that run around the Baie du Mont Saint-Michel, and for the first, stopping for a bite, a bit of water, and taking photos, I notice it for the first time, coming out of the haze at the horizon, with a lonely tree counterpoising it…the road is wandering along the Bay, so it is still a good ride to get there, I though I would stop overnight at Genêts, a little village, 500 inhabitants, 5 bistro, 2 ‘buvettes’ but more on this in a later post when I will get to the pics taken there, I did not stayed overnight….

When you have a mountain in the city or bordering it , usually you will find a belvedere, Heidelberg doesn’t make exception to that rule…so a picture of this quiet place…

Et c’est de là que j’avais photographié le vieux pont / And from there you do have a nice view on the old town and the old as well bridge….

A good thing about the North is that you don’t have to go far to get some ice for your Canadian Club rye whyskey…and since the drinking water was precious and had to be conserved until late may when the snow start melting, we were contributing to the effort to rationalize the water consumption…:) so I was part of this 3 members team that went that day for the chipping of our finest ice cube for our whiskey…I am the shadow holding, you have to guess it, the camera…

Humans, right ahead!! if iceberg are alive probably what they would say…

And unlike those unfortunate seamens and passagers that perish after meeting an iceberg, us we were just happy to jump on it…

It was in June 1986 that I landed in Normandy, all alone, armed with my train ticket, that was changed in a bicycle, un vélo…and left Cherbourg, with not one terrorist around, that year, 1986, Khadafi was scaring the hell out of tourists, and to the great dismay of the director of the Youth Hostel, was also scaring lot of tourist who had booked to his Hostel, and he was mad…so I left and finally got to the USA?

In fact it was an hostel, arboring a single american flag, by the Baie du Mont Saint-Michel, I think it was Danville, but it could be Agoncoutainville or Barneville…these names I noted in my litte not black but blue book, each day where I was….

A new page on my site JMR-ART, PHOTO-Normandie, just this pic for now, more will come…and of course there is another one called PHOTO, with links to other pages.

Another pic taken from an airplane window, this time aboard a ‘Twin Otter’ the workhorse of the North, this plane could go anywhere, almost, it is almost floating in the air…so we were flying to or from Eureka, night flight for most of the time, it was early February and up to these latitudes, the sun just start coming up, it was 4 months of total darkness in Eureka, the first day it rises, it did stay for 15 minutes and the sun was gone, until the next day, it would take 6 weeks going from 24 hrs night to 24 hrs daylight…but that day since it went so fast we run after it, actually flew, chasing it….of course we were going to some other exotic place like Mould Bay, Resolute Bay or Alert…

Heidelberg, photos et peinture / photos and painting…

I did add a new album or slideshow in my PHOTO page, those pics from Heidelberg

And I may as well show, and explain…why there is a photo partially altered, more like erased, I wanted to use one of my pic to prepare a photo for a painting, and either I did not have or know how to use photoshop, or maybe it was just one of those moment that you don’t care how it is done, just do it….but here’s the painting.

Et les photos qui ont servi à faire ce tableau / and the pics used to create the model for this painting

Le Chemin…The way to….

A map is a good thing to have when you’re travelling, like here for this man in Venice, you could also use a map for your life…probably lost mine when I was traveling there or elsewhere…I had to find something here, cannot use the same as in french, a map is a carte, and we also have credit card, ou carte de crédit, but in english you don’t have credit map I think….and for this photo I had to crop it, what is have to do with a carte or map, nothing…just I felt I have to say that most of the time I do not crop my picture, or very little, this time I had too, it was my old analogic camera, and film sometimes play tricks on you, either it doesn’t get right into the sprockets or sometimes like here, it just slip and one third of this pic was  shadowed by the next one…but finally I think the composition is not bad…

Winnipeg…my appartment

When I arrived in Winnipeg I lived in a very small apartment…and it was the view I had waking up in my sofa-bed in the living room, bedroom and more. A few things bought up north, souvenirs, a black and white print developped in my makeshift darkroom,  a canadian flag that my friends had given me when I left Montreal, two years earlier I did vote OUI for the Quebec sovereignty referendum…well it is history now..:)

When I saw this picture, a movie came up to my mind, a movie from 1983, about the same time I took this photo in Eureka, the movie title is ‘Never Cry Wolf’, if you feel like knowing more on this wonderful, to me at least, movie, here’s a link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Never_Cry_Wolf_(film). but unlike in the movie, they had not to work so hard for their food, there was plenty leftovers in the dump….

Drable…grisé en fait…/Drable, dull and grey in fact…

Another picture, black and white to start with, of the Holhensalzburg Castle, in fact I thought it did look ‘drable’ dull, kind of a grayish dull…charming maybe but definitely dull…so contrary at what I do with color photo lacking colors and turning them into black and white, I turn this one in color, subtle color, here’s the original, maybe charming dully grey original…

So a bit more of color, but is sepia a color? of course it is, but to me it is more a colorant for greys….kind of a hint of a colored world, but usually it does bring warmth and hopefully correct the dullness I felt looking at the original…also of course I did quite a bit of manipulations on the greys distribution, those sepiatized greys….and here’s the version, hopefully less ‘drable’ and more interesting, maybe?
