Moi, jadis…me a long time ago…

I can’t remember exactly why I took this picture of ths drawing of me, maybe I am nostalgic, but mainly grateful that a good friend of mine draw this, it was me in 1983, today I am not the same but hopefully still me…hope so….

Another street scene, taken end of November 1981,  trace of the first snow still on the ground, this is East-End Montreal, at the limit of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve and Rosemont, part of Montreal,  working class type area, now being slowly ‘gentrified’, so just an ordinary street scene, nothing special….

The latest version of this Liz’s painting, done early July, somehow it felt between two chairs, or I should more adequately say between two posts, so here it is, the pages related to it have also been updated, and the slideshow is also presented.

In 1985, the beer market was still dominated by large breweries, the smaller ones did not yet had a widespread base, so we used to drink a good but very average beer…in Quebec, the most popular product was Molson Export, their other ‘flagship’ beer ‘Canadian’ was almost unknown in Montreal, maybe a question of politic and image…:), so when I moved to Winnipeg, the Molson Ex there did not taste the same, so I became a true Canadian, now things have changes, many small breweries have sprung and we do have a very nice choice of  different brands with many differences among them..so this pic seems to me like a souvenir from a long gone era…:)

I wasn’t happy with her face rendering on the last session, so I decided to try to get it the way I want it, not sure it is quite there, but not far, and since I was working on her face, may as well work on the whole thing….

Eureka Sound

This is where the Fjord in front of Eureka Weather Station was joining with a larger one, I can’t find the name of it, but it was open on the south, where low on the horizon, the junction with a satellite would connect the station to the rest of the world, the dish was installed there, about 10  km from the station, and each time we did ride to this place, we were getting a nice show offered by waters and clouds, and the occasional Iceberg….and it was changing from quarter to quarter of an hour….

Pour une fois…This time only….

Usually my photographs are not about people, seldom they will be in, but this time I thought they were adding something to it, maybe there would be more ‘figurants’ if I was surrounded by models wearing boots…but it is not often or actually never the case…so this time it was two of the carpenter’s working on a renovation project in Eureka, in 1983, I was pretty ‘green’ on this job and they did show me a lot, after a few mnths there, I was happy to call them friends. Of course I could have used photoshop, like I did sometimes to remove unwanted things or…peoples, but this time they stayed in….

Une de mes premières….One of my firsts…

Going through my old slides, I am coming across some nice and forgotten souvenirs…like this pencil drawing, done in 1985, two years then that I took my first drawing lesson…and I guess I can say that already my choice subject and style were already in place…this is a Carly Simon drawing, interpreted from a picture taken by Norman Sieff for her album ‘Playing Possum’, and now I am telling myself, maybe this is one I would like to do again…this time in pastel, or oils…:)

Another one of those old photos, it was in Montreal, autumn 1981, kind of difficult to render it in photoshop the way I saw it when I took this picture…at least the way I think I saw it then, long time ago…

038-04_1981-11-xx-R

And then I thought it’s been a long time I did not try some montage in photoshop, I was seeing a photo of a model whose pose would match, more or less the tree trunk…found one, could have look more, but I choose that one, and then I figure that maybe she would like to pose with her own reflection…the result, another painting coming, I think…

Miroir, oh miroir…Mirror, Oh Mirror…

An environmental sculpture, in a museum which I just can’t remember the name, it is not far, north of Copenhagen, I think I will just shut up and let the picture do the work…..
